Queensland-born Seymour started his career with Brisbane Broncos

Hull coach Richard Agar has confirmed the club’s interest in signing Australian half-back Brett Seymour.

“It’s fair to say we’ve had a go at getting Brett into our ranks,” Agar told BBC Radio Humberside. “He’s a player we’ve spoken to.

“He’s a good age, a good footballer and he’s in a position where there are few quality half-backs on the market. But, as yet no deal has been done.”

Seymour, 26, is in the second year of a deal with New Zealand Warriors.

He moved there for the 2010 season following the premature end to his time with his previous club Cronulla, having had his contract terminated due to off-field incidents.

“It’s fair to say that there has been a link and he turned another club down,” added Agar. “But our club policy is that only when they’re signed, sealed and delivered, then we’ll put them out there.”

Hull, who face a decision over injury-ravaged Sean Long’s fututre, have already signed Leigh scrum-half Jamie Ellis for next season.

And they have also already completed the signing of another New Zealand Warriors player, hooker Aaron Heremaia – on a two-year deal.

Hull’s squad this season was weakened just days before the start of the season when they terminated the contract of full-back Jordan Tansey for disciplinary reasons.
